Forgetting to grease the pan before pouring batter and baking can lead to frustrating and broken baked goods. Silpat’s line of baking pans offers a solution to this problem forever.
Silpat, established in the mid-1960s, recently expanded its product line with a line of bakeware exclusively sold at Williams Sonoma. The bakeware is made in France using custom flexible fiberglass coated with food-grade silicon, providing the ultimate non-stick experience. Silpat’s bakeware can withstand a wide temperature range from -40°F to 500°F and is safe to clean in the dishwasher.
The Silpat line, now available at Williams Sonoma, offers pans designed for baking specific treats such as madeleines, muffins, mini loaves, mini muffins, and mini fluted cakes. Our shopping team tested the muffin pan and mini loaf pan and loved them. Read on for our full review.
Prior to using Silpat’s Mini Loaf Pan, I only had an AmazonBasics silicone cookie sheet for non-stick baking. It was sufficient, but not enough to replace my use of parchment paper.
Silpat’s loaf pan was a game-changer. I was immediately impressed after using it just once. The pan has 9 molds for mini loaves. I made mini banana breads that would normally fill one regular loaf pan and the batter filled each of the 9 molds completely.
No greasing was needed, as suggested by Silpat, and the mini loaves popped out effortlessly from the molds after baking. All I had to do was gently press the bottom of each and all 9 came out perfectly formed.
Cleaning the pan was simple, just run cold water into each mold and wipe with a sponge. It’s much easier and quicker than soaking a metal pan with baked-on bread crumbs.
Silpat’s Mini Loaf Pan may not completely replace my metal loaf pan, but it saves time and reduces potential frustration, making it my go-to for baking sweet breads.
I own a terribly ineffective non-stick muffin pan that never lived up to its promise. That was until I tried Silpat’s muffin mold. For the first time, I experienced the joy of effortlessly removing a freshly baked muffin with no sticking.
My recent lemon poppyseed muffins slid out of the Silpat mold with ease and smoothness, it was almost emotional. I’m not a great baker, so I get emotional about things that turn out perfectly. It was a truly “no crumb left behind” experience.
Despite Silpat’s instructions, I still sprayed a bit of oil in each mold before baking, unlike my old muffin pan. Though, this may result in some browning or crisping at the bottom of the muffin, which doesn’t affect me but could be a consideration.
I won’t bake in a metal muffin pan again and consider Silpat worth the investment.
